Origin:
Acerola is a plant from the Malpighian family and is native to the Caribbean islands, Central America and the Amazon region. Today it mainly comes from subtropical areas such as Asia, India and South America.
Characteristics and substances:
The fruit looks like a cherry and is therefore often named as acerola cherry – but it is not related to our familiar sweet cherry. The fruit consists of 89% water and contains hardly any carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
Acerola is one of the strongest and best sources of vitamin C in the world. It is also rich in pectin, carotenoids, bioflavonoids, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and minerals.
