Ricinus communis seed oil
The evergreen bush (Ricinus communis), which is native to the tropics and subtropics, belongs to the family of the wolfsmilch plants. In warm regions the ricinus can grow up to 12 meters high, in colder regions it occurs rather only as a bush.
The reddish-brown, spicky castor fruits usually contain three bean-shaped oval seeds from which the oil is extracted and then cold pressed.
Characteristics and substances:
The seeds have an oil content of 40-50%. The cold pressed castor oil is colorless to light yellow. It has an arty smell and taste. The main components of castor oil are ricinoleic acid (88%), oleic acid (about 4%), linoleic acid (4%), stearic acid (1%), palmitic acid (1%) and other fatty acids.
Castor oil is used in cosmetics for hair care products, mascara and eyelash care, lip gloss, lipsticks and bath oils.
The oil is also used for stimulation of metabolism and strengthening the immune system.
Not suitable as nutritional oil..
